A Comparison-Based Study of Psychoacoustic Parameters of Motorcycle Noise Emission

Zusammenfassung:Nowadays, more than ever, there is an intention to reduce environmental disturbing factors. Undoubtedly traffic noise is one of the most crucial causes of environmental disturbance. Various categories of vehicles play roles in overall noise emission, however, the effects of these categories are not identical. Two-wheelers and specially motorcycles are a very influential noise emission sources in this investigation. Although the contribution of this category of vehicles in sound pressure level is not significant and is not considered in noise maps, they are very likely to emit extremely annoying noises. This is due to the characteristics of psychoacoustic parameters which they generate and could have grave consequences on physical and mental well-being of individuals. Therefore, it is vital to realize the weights of these parameters by conducting a thorough investigation. This paper aims to study the psychoacoustic parameters of motorcycle noises in various conditions such as acceleration, deceleration, and different engine speeds and finally to draw a comparison between motorcycles and other vehicle categories based on psychoacoustic parameters.
