Zusammenfassung:In any development project we have a unique chance to do everything right from the very beginning. This also is true for the design of our acoustic environment in urban development projects. However, often we fail to take this very first chance due to different reasons. First, the complexity to handle the sound environment in our cities demands a transdisciplinary approach to master the planning process of an urban acoustic environment with all its related aspects. Second, a key issue for such holistic urban planning is the successful communication between all people involved in the process, whereby tools and methods for communication are needed beyond todays state of the art.Third, one rarely finds acoustic experts mastering the whole spectrum of knowledge and tools inside the field of acoustic sound planning needed for such a task. The paper presents experiences and results from SONORUS, a European Training Network for young researches. The paper demonstrates methodologies and tools that could help to reach a state where the acoustic environment is part of the urban planning from the very beginning.
